Reviews » Pingo prepaid phone cards

Pingo is the retail division of iBasis "one of the three largest carriers of international voice traffic in the world and a global leader in VoIP" as stated on their corporate website. The company was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Burlington, MA with global operations in countries such as the Netherlands and Hong Kong.

We recommend Pingo for several reasons: it is offered by an experienced international calling provider, they have a straightforward offer and a clean website.

Pingo customer reviews

The only thing I don't like about Pingo calling cards is the maintenance fee they charge monthly. I like to buy larger amounts of prepaid credit and use it over a long period of time. I still use their service though.

I used to call my sister in Australia using my cell at 60 cents/min! Didn't know I could use calling cards with a cellular phone. Now I do and I'm only paying like 2 cents per minute. Now that's a big difference.

Pingo's customer service is so pathetic and irresponsible. I had recharged my pingo account recently for $20 but my account did NOT get recharged. I had contacted Pingo customer service regarding this. The customer service Agent said my payment shows pending so he will have billing department to have a look at it. But NO response from Pingo even after 5 days. I had sent couple of follow up emails but No response/reply.

Finally, I went ahead and disputed the transaction. The same day evening, I tired logging into Pingo but I was getting “Invalid Account”…This is NOT AT ALL ACCEPTABLE…

My Kind advise, DO NOT GO FOR PINGO since you have other good calling card providers in the market.

Poor Voice Quality
I gave Pingo a try but received consistently poor voice quality on my calls to Japan. I could hardly hear the other party, they sounded muffled and the volume was way too low. It is unusable. Hope this helps.

Marketing
We wanted to personally respond to CallingBargains.com readers concerns.

Venu - Sorry for your concern but we have a verification system to control any misuse of the service. I'm afraid this might have bin the issue. You can contact account verification to see what might have triggered this to resolve it quickly.

George - We do have a 100% call quality guarantee that would have resolved this issue. Plus your feedback is important to keep the service connected with global call quality.

Charges increasing
Pingo was good but have higher charges now. Was 13 cent to call Ghana Cell phone but has risen to 16.5 cent which is expensive. Pingo, review ur charges otherwise, you are on your way of losing your customers

Pingo Calling Card Worked 50% of the Time & Company Does Not Return Inquiries
I purchased Pingo to call home while traveling in Ireland. The calling card worked satisfactorily during the first week while there. However, by week 2, the one and only access number I was given for Ireland (ie, a local Irish number) stopped working. I attempted to call the access number from hotels, bed and breakfasts, phone booths, and Internet cafes, on a near daily basis, all to no avail - the number was dead (I even had locals give it a try just so I knew there was no possible way that I all of a sudden started to misdial the number). Now, I was able to use $15 of the $20 worth of the card, so my main dispute is not regarding the lost $5, but rather the complete lack of responsiveness from Pingo. Multiple attempts to contact the company have been fruitless, except that I've received an automated "Pingo Loyalty rewards" e-mail that did no more than add insult to injury. In short, I would like my $5 refunded and would like to receive the customer service that I deserve; namely, a simple acknowledgement and preferably and an apology and explanation as to why their local access number stopped working. It's just common courtesy.

Pingo is one of the worst services I have ever used. Half of the phone calls I tried to make were never connected or cut off in mid conversation. When I did make a connection it was poor quality making it hard to have a conversation. I'll never use this service again.

Pingo - bad customer service
I called Pingo to find out about their service and they hang up on me. I called back and the customer service person's voice sounded as he was sleeping. I am glad I found this blog. It shows me that it is not worth it to buy Pingo calling card!!

Great value
I changed from Acculinq and find Pingo much better. It's cheaper for my calls to UK and China. I've never had issues with call quality to UK, but did have some quality issues calling China on Chinese New Year - perhaps due to it being a busy time. Managing my account online is way better than anything Acculinq has. I also love that I can set up quick dial numbers and the connections are fast ! I'm totally happy with Pingo.

Calls to Bolivia are clear
Switched to Pingo to get away from high AT&T UVerse international calling rates. Calls to Bolivia are clear and have not had any connection issues.
